First Alert Locating Ltd. is proud to announce that it has been selected to participate in a joint venture with Gas Trak Ltd to provide Leak Detection services for clients in our area utilizing their exciting SuprSnifrTM equipment.

There are many causes for leaks on natural gas pipelines such as internal/external corrosion, mechanical strikes, faulty welds, lightning strikes, etc. Conducting regular leak surveys is an integral part of fighting greenhouse gases and reducing environmental impact due to groundwater contamination. The surveys identify pipeline and casing failures, find above grade leaks, and help assess pipeline integrity.

There are many methods available to complete a leak survey. Foot patrol, ATV surveys, and aerial surveys are the most common. However, in 2000, Gas Trak Ltd. developed a quick and cost-effective method to detect leaks. Using SuprSnifrTM technology, an operator is able to detect leak plumes by conducting atmospheric testing downwind of pipelines using available roads and access trails.
